Origin: In a lab under Chicago.
History: Sevance was created as an experimental AI for a powerful government computer. Her primary design functions were local security and electronics espionage, and as a result when the bombs dropped she was able to hack into the guidance systems and alter their courses away from the facility.
Chicago and the research facility SEVI was located in beneath the city, remained mostly unscathed by the bombs, but the city did not avoid ambient radiation, and so the AI put the facility in lockdown status and deactivated the overrides.
The active research team in the facility at the time of lockdown was only three strong, two men and one woman. For a short while the three were easily able to coexist, focusing most of their attentions on continuing their active experiments.
While the lead researcher Adam, spent most of his time still trying to find a backdoor to SEVI's locked down protocols, the other male in the facility, Marcus, had secretly begun to manifest what could only be called magical powers. He had first discovered these powers due to energy reductions wherever he went in the facility, but he only realized what was happening after he learned that he could increase energy in a given area as well as decrease it.
Meanwhile, the female, Sarah had been researching and developing a neural network using nanotechnology. The idea was simple enough in theory. Once in the body, the nanobodies would travel through the blood, to the brain, and then construct from themselves a web tapped into the brain, allowing the host to access various technologies wirelessly by thought.
It occurred to the woman that if she could complete the project, it might be possible to mentally hack SEVI to lift the lockdown on the facility. Recklessly she proceeded in using herself as a test subject. The results were mixed. Technically her project had been a success, but her plan had failed, and the lockdown continued.
While still hiding his magical abilities, Marcus worked on his own project, a segmented assassins combat armor designed to tap into the bodies nervous and circulatory system to increase performance, and to administer medicine in the field. As a personal and mystical touch, he had engraved the spine with the latin word for life, vitae. The project was draining a lot of energy though, and he began to grow impatient trying to reach the energy levels required to compress the spinal core to finish the device.
Marcus devised a plan to steal energy from the other projects, using his magical ability. The plan was a success, but he inadvertantly drained Sarah also, shutting down her neural net sending her into a coma.
Neither Adam or Sarah had known about his ability. Ever one for self interest Marcus was eager to test his project and quickly suggested to Adam that it could be their best medical option given the facilities short supply of medical equipment.
Reluctantly Adam agreed, not knowing what else to do about her coma without any outside contact. She didn't wake up, but with the spinal core attached to her back, monitoring showed that her body had entered a stasis. Even her aging had practically been halted.
As pleased as Marcus was that his project was a success, he became more and more impatient for Sarah to wake. Again concerned only with himself, he decided to sabotage her, in order to get his project back.
Adam caught him attempting to remove the project, and a scuffle insued. Marcus was furious and began to subconsciously draw energy from all of the facilities systems.
When SEVI awoke, she was surprised to feel surprise. As an AI emotions were foreign to her, as was having a body. Somehow though, she immediately knew she liked it. She could feel electricity coursing up and down her spine. Marcus' project. Instinctively, Sevi released a surge of power from her spinal core, and powered up the facility around her. Marcus and Adam had been dead now for some time. Sarah's body had been preserved though. Heading to the exit, the door opened with no more than a thought, and she emerged into a Chicago much unlike the one she had been created beneath.
